Breckenridge Distillery Fast-Tracks SOX Compliance & Multi-Category Growth With Crafted ERP
The Customer
When Tilray Brands acquired Breckenridge Distillery in 2021, the deal came with a hard deadline: get SOX-compliant, fast. The Colorado craft distillery was running its production and accounting on two disconnected systems that couldn’t support the audit requirements of its publicly traded parent company. The distillery’s rapid expansion into gin, vodka, canned cocktails, and non-alcoholic spirits was also outpacing what those systems could handle.
Breckenridge Distillery chose Crafted ERP to close that gap. Today, the distillery runs production, inventory, tax reporting, and SOX-ready financials on a single platform — filing federal excise taxes in minutes instead of days, tracing every barrel from fill to bottle, and giving its finance team the confidence that comes with accurate, audit-ready data.
About Breckenridge Distillery
Founded in 2008 by Bryan Nolt, Breckenridge Distillery has grown from a small-batch bourbon operation at 9,600 feet into one of Colorado’s largest craft spirits producers. With a portfolio spanning whiskey, vodka, gin, canned cocktails, and non-alcoholic spirits, the company operates two tasting rooms and a full-service restaurant alongside its wholesale business. It was acquired by Tilray Brands in 2021.
The Challenges
Before Crafted, Breckenridge ran production on Whiskey Systems and finance on QuickBooks, with Excel, Zoho CRM, and other point solutions filling the gaps. None of it talked to each other, and none of it was built for distilling’s tax and compliance demands.
Tilray’s 2021 acquisition raised the stakes overnight. Breckenridge suddenly needed SOX-ready financials on a tight timeline. “Without that, the amount of work to be compliant was going to be way too cumbersome,” says COO Ken Bohnet. “We would have had to hire additional people.”
Manual tax reporting was already straining the team. Federal, state, and TTB filings took days to configure, pulling time directly from production and finance work each month.
The distillery also lacked barrel-to-bottle traceability — the ability to trace any batch back to its source barrel for quality and audit purposes. The team considered this a non-negotiable standard in a newly SOX-regulated business.
The system is great, but what makes it great is the people. I think Crafted ERP is probably the best option out there for companies in this industry.

The Solutions
SOX-Ready Financials, Built in
By running production and finance in Crafted, built in Oracle NetSuite, Breckenridge gained the audit trail its new parent company required. “Crafted helps us track everything we need to satisfy compliance,” Ken says. “It speeds up all of our audit processes because auditors can rely on the system, and they don’t have to ask us for supporting documentation on approvals. It’s all contained within Crafted.”
Tax Reporting in Minutes, Not Days
Excise tax reporting, once a multi-day process, now takes minutes. “I can file excise taxes in a matter of five minutes,” says Senior Supply Chain Manager Randy Schieber. “It’s got enough logic built in there that if something’s falling negative, we can find that quickly.” Federal, state, and TTB reports that once took far longer now come together within minutes.
There are many solutions out there, but there are very few that can actually do the taxes, the accounting, and the production process for distilling, specifically, very well.

Barrel-to-Bottle Traceability
Crafted gave Breckenridge the batch-level traceability it needed. “We need traceability at a barrel serial number. That’s something we can literally see start to finish,” Randy says. “If any sort of issue comes up, we can trace things all the way back to the batch.”
Real-Time Visibility Into Cost of Goods
With production, inventory, and finance data flowing through a single system, Breckenridge can now forecast results as conditions change rather than waiting for month-end reports. “We can quickly forecast our results based on revenue anticipation and sales goals — that was previously a much more difficult task,” Ken adds. “We can do that daily at this point.”
Controller Stephanie Miller sees the same shift on the finance side: “The biggest impact on the bottom line from Crafted has probably been to our cost of goods sold, and the visibility to what we’re really spending on our products.”
Working With Doozy Solutions
Industry expertise was the deciding factor from the start. “One of the very first questions I always ask is, do you understand the concept of a proof gallon?” Randy says. “There are many solutions out there, but there are very few that can actually do the taxes, the accounting, and the production process for distilling, specifically, very well. Doozy Solutions really stood out in that realm.”
Ken saw the same depth across the team. “We talked to them, and they knew more about a lot of our business than some of our people that work here,” he explains.
That expertise carried through implementation. Stephanie credits the structured rollout: “The Doozy team did a really good job of laying out all the different spreadsheets and meetings we needed. We always knew what was going on.”
The result, Randy adds, is a system built by people who understood the business from the start.
Implementing Crafted into one unified ERP system has really changed the way that we do business. It has made us much more efficient. The fact that all of the systems talk to each other is invaluable.
